2023 was our first year for the Festival and wow! What an incredible marquee of performers! To paraphrase a famous film studio: "Only the heavens had more stars!"
Thank you to each and every one of you who supported the Festival - the performers, the venue management and staff, and of course, the people who purchased tickets and sat in those seats.
Planning for the 2024 Festival will begin soon. (Watch this space for updates)
In the meantime, if you'd like to see what you missed, check out the 2023 line up below:
Richard Skipper and Michael McAssey opened the Inaugural National Capital Cabaret Festival. Both multiple award-winners had the audience in the palm of their hands. What a way to start the week! Anna Bergman “thrills you with the sheer aural sensation of her voice” (THE WALL STREET JOURNAL) and has been hailed by THE WASHINGTON POST as “a vocal citizen of the world who has triumphed in everything from Broadway tunes to opera arias and the sultry innuendoes of a chanteuse.” She performs internationally in concerts, theatre, opera, music festivals, with symphony orchestras, on television and recordings.
Susan Derry, a Broadway veteran and Cabaret Star in her own right, hosted an evening of up-and-coming performers from our own backyard. Between you and me, the real Stars of the evening were the young performers who really loved what they were doing - and it showed! (The Festival was honored to provide the first professional gig for many of these singers.)
Ann Kittredge kicked off the second half of the Festival with her show, "Movie Nite". Ann has performed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and at major venues across the country, working with top producers and directors throughout her career. With the amazing Chris Denny on keys, her show was, well, simply spectacular!
Amanda King “... has a deliciously supple voice, capable of gliding easily from a thrumming, oaky and often sultry lower register to a delicately melodic upper tier ... there's no question Amanda King is a singer worth watching and, more important, worth hearing."- David Wiegand— San Francisco Chronicle. In no uncertain terms, she brought down the house with her show.
Arnaldo! started as a soloist with the Seattle Men’s Chorus (SMC) and has performed with SMC in some of the major concert halls in the US, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. In 2005, he completed the Cabaret Summer Conference Workshop at Yale University. In 2006, Arnaldo! started the Pacific Northwest Cabaret Association and continues to organize “Seattle's March is Cabaret Month” featuring local and visiting artists. 2007 marked Arnaldo!’s New York cabaret debut and in 2008, Arnaldo! was honored with a New York Backstage Bistro Award.
Lina Koutrakos is well, a powerhouse of a performer! With her accompanist Jon Weber, she closed the Inaugural National Capital Cabaret Festival with a musical strength and personal authenticity that simply can't be put into words.
